TGC Book Club

What is Book Club?

The TGC Book Club exists to help get good books on diverse topics into the minds and conversations of our church members. Every other month, we’ll read a book and then gather to discuss it together on a Sunday morning. Anyone who can read is welcome to join us! Books will be available at a heavily discounted price.

What is the reading schedule for 2024?

If you want to grab a book and discuss, here is the schedule for this year. Participate in as many as you’d like!

  1. February: “Taking God at His Word” by Kevin DeYoung

    • Can we trust the Bible completely? Is it sufficient for our complicated lives? Can we really know what it teaches? Kevin DeYoung has written an accessible introduction to the Bible that answers important questions raised by both Christians and non-Christians. This book will help you understand what the Bible says about itself and encourage you to read and believe what it says―confident that it truly is God's Word.

    • BOOK DISCUSSION: Sunday, March 24, 2024

  2. April: “The Enemy Within” by Kris Lungaard

    • This book takes dead aim at the heart of ongoing sin. Drawing from two masterful works by John Owen, Kris Lundgaard offers insight, encouragement and hope for overcoming the enemy within.

  3. June: “Humility” by C.J. Mahaney

    • C. J. Mahaney raises a battle cry to daily, diligently, and deliberately weaken our greatest enemy (pride) and cultivate our greatest friend (humility). His thorough examination clarifies misconceptions, revealing the truth about why God detests pride and turns His active attention to the humble.

  4. August: “Five Lies of Our Anti-Christian Age” by Rosaria Butterfield

    • Our culture changes at a constant and rapid pace, swaying in its beliefs on sexuality and spirituality. Author Rosaria Butterfield argues that the word of God is the answer to such swaying opinions and uses Scripture to illuminate 5 lies that our prevailing culture often promotes, including how being a spiritual person is kinder than being a biblical Christian, that feminism is good for the world and the church, and that transgenderism is normal and healthy.

    • BOOK DISCUSSION: Sunday, September 29, 2024

  5. October: “The Unquenchable Flame” by Michael Reeves

    • But what motivated the Reformers? And what were they really like? This book is a lively, accessible, and fully informative introduction to the Reformation by Michael Reeves. It brings to life the movement's most colorful characters (Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, John Calvin,), while also examining their ideas, showing the profound and personal relevance of Reformation thinking for today.
